SERVICES TO THE WMU COMMUNITY

Any WMU student or faculty may have access to use the WMU-Cooley Law Libraries for legal research purposes.  Members of the WMU community have to stop at the Access Control desk and present a current valid WMU ID.

WMU students enrolled in a WMU-Cooley class for credit as an elective at WMU will be provided a WMU-Cooley user name/password and have portal access.  However, WI-FI access for other WMU students and faculty is only available here via eduroam. WMU-Cooley libraries do not have guest passwords to WI-FI for anyone who has not been issued an online WMU-Cooley network account by IT.

Borrowing Privileges

WMU students and faculty may check out any materials that circulate, except WMU-Cooley Course Reserves. WMU students and faculty must present their WMU ID's at the Circulation Desk and staff will create a patron record in the system.  WMU students may check out regular items for 14 days and reserve items for three hours.  WMU faculty may check out items for 30 days.

Electronic Resources

WMU students and faculty have access to many electronic resources via our public access terminals at any campus location (e.g. LexisNexis Digital, PLI Discover, WestlawNext Public Access, etc.).  Members of the WMU community do not have remote access from home or the WMU campus in Kalamazoo.  Any electronic resource restricted to use by WMU-Cooley students, faculty and staff are not accessible to WMU students and faculty (e.g. Lexis, Bloomberg, etc.)

Photocopying and Printing

WMU students may copy by setting up a papercut account. You may then pay for copies via credit card or PayPal. However, an easier solution is to scan and email documents. Printing at the public OPAC terminals is restricted to five pages at a time with a 10 page maximum per use.

Reference Services

The libraries have reference librarians who are happy to help you with your research questions. The reference desk is staffed seven days a week during the school term, and the Library is open 106 hours per week for your convenience. Our e-mail reference service, Ask A Librarian, is available 24 hours a day.  A toll free reference number: 1-866-REF-DESK (1-866-733-3375) is available.

Research Guides

To further assist you in your research, the WMU-Cooley Librarians have created and continuously maintain a number of research guides on a variety of legal topics. The annotated research guides assist researchers in identifying useful print, electronic and internet sources pertinent to their legal issue. Find a list of Research Guides here
