Welcome
from President and Dean
Don LeDuc
Welcome to the Thomas M. Cooley Web site.
I hope you enjoy learning about our institution
and the excellent legal education program, faculty, and facilities we have
to offer. I have the privilege of serving as both President and Dean of Cooley
Law School. I know from first hand experience as a teacher and as the father
of a lawyer that our students share a dream - to become lawyers.
We set our standards high at Cooley. We expect
all our graduates to pass the bar examination and to be competent, ethical
practicing attorneys, so our program of legal education is rigorous, challenging,
and thorough. We require our students to meet a standard of academic competence
and professional conduct while at Cooley that is comparable to the standards
of the legal profession. Every student will be taught the knowledge, skills,
and ethics needed to be successful and respected lawyers.
This is an exciting time at Thomas M. Cooley Law
School. We have designed our program to serve students and enhance their potential
for success. Our curriculum includes scheduling options that offer an opportunity
for students with varying needs to find a way to attend law school. You may
choose from full-time or part-time programs; weekday, evening, or Saturday
and Sunday classes; and from two, three, or four-year programs. No school
offers a greater variety of scheduling options than Cooley.
We have altered our third-year program so that
our students can concentrate their studies in particular areas of the law.
Our hope is that this focus of study will serve the needs of our students,
increase their competence, and make them more attractive to employers.
Cooley has always taken pride in its ability to
produce graduates ready to practice law. But we have taken that effort to
a new level by assuring that all students have the opportunity for a clinical
internship or externship placement. Coupled with the inclusion in the concentrations
of simulation courses and advanced research and writing projects, Cooley graduates
can honestly tell their prospective employers that they are ready to hit the
ground running.
Please find out about Cooley Law School while you
visit our Web site. I think you'll discover why Cooley is the largest
law school in the nation and why we are so proud of our over 10,000 graduates
- practicing nationwide and internationally. Please feel free to contact one
of our Admissions representatives
or me to help you make your decision about attending Cooley Law School.
Most sincerely,
Don LeDuc
President and Dean
