April 10, 2005 Thomas M. Cooley Law School wins OCBF AwardOn Friday, April 8, 2005, at the Oakland County Bar Foundation’s Sixth Annual Signature Event, the Oakland County Bar Foundation recognized Thomas M. Cooley Law School by presenting the school with the Oakland County Bar Foundation Award. "Located in Rochester on the campus of Oakland University, the members of the Oakland County bar have the good fortune to have the synergy and the cooperation of the esteemed Cooley Law School located right here in Oakland County," stated Brenda M. Orlando, president of the Oakland County Bar Foundation. She also thanked Cooley for their generous Platinum sponsorship of the Signature Event.The award read, "Presented to Thomas M. Cooley Law School by the Oakland County Bar foundation in recognition and appreciation of their commitment to excellence and significant contribution to law-related and charitable activities in Oakland County." Don LeDuc, President and Dean, and John Nussbaumer, Associate Dean of the Rochester/Oakland University campus, accepted the award on behalf of Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Don LeDuc expressed his pleasure and honor in accepting the award. He also thanked Oakland University, recognizing in attendance: Penny Crissman, chairman of the board, and Vic Zambardi, general counsel, for their ongoing support of Cooley’s campus in Rochester on the campus of Oakland University. The Oakland County Bar Foundation’s Signature Event raised just short of $100,000 for law-related charities in Oakland County. The Oakland County Bar Foundation was organized to receive and administer funds that support the charitable and educational activities of the Oakland County Bar Association and other publicly supported organizations. It serves the citizens of Oakland County and the legal profession through the funding of programs that foster the honor, integrity and welfare of the legal system, and improve its equality, accessibility and affordability, maintain the excellence of the Adams Pratt Law Library and educate the public about the role of lawyers in society. Founded in 1972, Thomas M. Cooley Law School is now the largest law school in the country. Cooley has the second-largest enrollment in African-American students of any law school and the highest number of minorities overall in the United States. Cooley has three campuses across Michigan; its main campus in downtown Lansing, its downtown Grand Rapids/Western Michigan University campus in west Michigan, and its Rochester/Oakland University campus in southeast Michigan. In addition to the J.D. program, students at Cooley can also pursue an LL.M. in Tax or in Intellectual Property.
