1st-Year Minority Clerkship Interviews Planned

Lansing, Michigan — Cooley law school will host interviews Saturday, March 12, for first-year minority law students to take part in clerkships in the Grand Rapids, Mich., area.

The Grand Rapids Bar and the Floyd Skinner Bar Association have teamed up to provide the minority clerkship program, which places first-year minority law students in law firms, corporations and public interest clerkships in the Grand Rapids community.

The interviews will be held at Cooley's main campus in Lansing, Mich. in the Classroom Building, 217 S. Capitol Ave., on a first-come, first-served basis. Students interested in the experience should contact their Career Services office for a list of items that will be needed on interview day.

With the program, students have the opportunity to gain practical work experience, make contacts which lead to networking opportunities, use the experience as a résumé builder, and create the possibility of a job after graduation.

Bernice Davenport, Cooley's Director of the Career Services office, said, “This is a wonderful clerkship program for minority students seeking jobs in the Grand Rapids area and we are honored to have been selected to host this year's event.”

Founded in 1972, Cooley Law School is the largest law school in the country. Cooley has the second-largest enrollment of African-American students of any law school and the highest number of minorities overall in the United States. Cooley has three campuses across Michigan; its main campus in downtown Lansing, its downtown Grand Rapids/Western Michigan University campus in west Michigan, and its Rochester/Oakland University campus in southeast Michigan. In addition to the J.D. program, students at Cooley can also pursue a joint MPA/JD degree or an LL.M. in Tax or in Intellectual Property.
