State Bar President to Speak at Cooley/OU

Cooley Law School will host a presentation by Nancy J. Diehl, 70th president of the State Bar of Michigan, on Thursday, July 14, 5-6 p.m. The event, co-sponsored by Cooley and the Oakland County Bar Association, will be held at Cooley’s Oakland University campus in Rochester, Mich., in Room 202C O’Dowd Hall.

Diehl will present, “Partnerships for the Public Good: Law Schools, the Bench, and the Bar.”

Diehl, who has over 20 years experience as a prosecutor, heads the felony trial division in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. She oversees general trials, homicide, auto theft, and major drug matters, and the Child and Family Abuse Bureau. She has been recognized by several organizations for her work on behalf of children and families, and speaks regularly on domestic violence and child abuse investigation.

Diehl serves on the Governor’s Task Force on Children’s Justice, on the board of directors of the Guidance Center, and as chair of the Wayne County Council Against Family Violence. She has served on the State Bar’s Board of Commissioners since 1996, and is only the third woman to lead the State Bar of Michigan. She chairs the Public Policy and Rules Committee.

She is a member of the Women Lawyers of Michigan, The Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, the Wolverine Bar Association, and the National District Attorneys Association.

A reception will be held in the law library, 216 O’Dowd Hall, following the presentation.
