The Thomas M. Cooley Law School announced today that Associate Professor Martha Moore has been promoted to assistant dean of Cooley’s newly expanded Auburn Hills campus. Moore replaces Joan Vestrand, who will lead Cooley’s new campus in Ann Arbor as its associate dean.
“Professor Moore is an outstanding mind in the legal community and a central figure in student life here at Cooley,” said John Nussbaumer, associate dean of the Auburn Hills campus. “Her commitment to professionalism and integrity combined with her dedication to students make the promotion of Martha an instinctive and exciting step following the expansion of our Auburn Hills facility.”
Cooley commemorated a 65,000-square-foot addition on May 28, 2009, doubling the size of its Auburn Hills facilities at 2630 Featherstone Road.
“This position is a great opportunity to play a larger
role in shaping the education for the lawyers of tomorrow,” said Moore. “With the recent expansion of our Auburn Hills campus, we can now accommodate more students who will learn from some of the best minds in law.”
In her time as an associate professor at Cooley’s Auburn Hills campus, Moore taught Professional Responsibility and Civil Procedure I. Prior to joining Cooley’s faculty, Moore held a position as partner and shareholder at the firm of Moore Vestrand & Pozehl in Southfield, Mich. and served as a staff attorney for the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission.
She participated as a leader in the State Bar of Michigan’s orientation on professionalism for new law students. She also was appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to serve on the nine-member board of the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission, the agency charged with the investigation and prosecution of lawyers in attorney disciplinary matters.
Moore serves as a panel member for the State of Michigan Character and Fitness Committee, an influential role in character and fitness matters pending before the State Bar. Moore also serves on the board of directors of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, a bar association in Oakland County focused on increasing minority representation in the legal profession and facilitating equal justice for underserved members of the Oakland County community.
Moore earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill. She also earned a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University. Moore was admitted to practice law in North Carolina in 1983 and in Michigan in 1986.
