'Integrity In Our Communities' Series To Feature Judge Leo Bowman
The Thomas M. Cooley Law School today announced Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Leo Bowman as the second speaker in this year’s "Integrity in our Communities" lecture series. Judge Bowman will present "Integrity on the Bench" on Wednesday, March 26 at noon until 1:30 p.m. at the Auburn Hills campus, 2630 Featherstone Road.
The lecture series, offered by Cooley’s Center for Ethics, Service and Professionalism, features attorneys and judges sharing their experiences as legal professionals. The event is free and open to the public.
A native of Pontiac, Mich., Judge Bowman attended Pontiac Public Schools and was the first in his family to graduate from high school and college. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Oakland University in 1976 and a juris doctor from the University of Detroit Law School in 1981.
Judge Bowman was elected to the 50th District Court bench in 1988 and was re-elected in 1994, 2000 and 2006. In 2007, Gov. Granholm appointed Judge Bowman to the 6th Circuit Court in Oakland County. He is the first African-American male to serve as a permanent member of the Oakland County Circuit Court.
Judge Bowman currently serves on the board of directors of the American Judges Association Board of Governors and the Oakland County Bar Association. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Ronald H. Brown Excellence in Leadership Award from the Pontiac Urban League, and Northern Oakland NAACP’s Community Treasurer’s Award.
Celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, Cooley Law School is the largest law school in the country. Founded in 1972, it operates J.D. programs across Michigan in Lansing, Auburn Hills, and Grand Rapids. Today, Cooley Law School has more than 12,000 graduates across the nation and worldwide and also offers joint degree and Master of Laws programs.
