Cooley's Annual 5K Race for Education Set for June 6
The Thomas M. Cooley Law School announced today that it will hold its ninth annual Race for Education on Friday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. in downtown Lansing. The 5K event has raised more than $60,000 for Lansing-area educational institutions since it began in 2000.
"This is a great opportunity for the community to get involved in a cause that Cooley is so committed to," said Terry Carella, Cooley’s Race for Education director.
Each 5K participant nominates an educational institution of his/her choice and Cooley selects the recipients at random. One hundred percent of the proceeds are donated to local schools; one 50 percent recipient, one 25 percent recipient, two 10 percent recipients and one 5 percent recipient.
"What’s nice about this race is that you don’t have to be an experienced runner to make a difference for a local school," Carella said.
Previous races have helped fund everything from new playground equipment to school supplies.
"It’s always gratifying to surprise local schools with the donation," Carella said.
A Children’s Race Around the Capitol, approximately one-half mile and a Kids’ Dash, approximately 100 yards, also will be held following the start of the 5K.
Registration is $20 if postmarked by Tuesday, May 20, and $25 if postmarked by Friday, May 30. Walk-in Registration at Cooley, at 300 S. Capitol Ave, Lansing, is $30 through June 5, 2008, and Race Day Registration is $35.
