Cooley Awards Nearly $13,000 to Michigan Educational Institutions
The eighth annual Cooley Race for Education provides unexpected funding for everything from after-school activities to pet therapy programs.
The Thomas M. Cooley Law School announced today that six Michigan schools were awarded a combined total of nearly $13,000 as part of its recent Race for Education, an annual event headlined by a 5K race. Each 5K participant nominates an educational institution and Cooley selects the winners randomly. Awards are based upon a percentage of total race proceeds.
2007 Cooley Race for Education awards:
- Approximately $6,000 to Dwight Rich Middle School, Lansing (50 percent winner)
- Approximately $3,000 to St. Peter’s Lutheran Preschool, Rockford (25 percent winner)
- Approximately $1,200 to Michigan State University, Eli Broad College, East Lansing (10 percent winner)
- Approximately $1,200 to Beekman Center, Lansing (10 percent winner)
- $1,000 to Lakewood High School, Lake Odessa (Cooley’s $1,000 winner)
- Approximately $600 to Radmoor Montessori, Okemos (5 percent winner)
“We are pleased that this event continues to raise substantial funds to support education,” said Terry Carella, race director. “It is a pleasure to inform schools that their budgets will have a few more dollars to spread around.”
Funds will be used to support the therapeutic riding and pet therapy programs at the Beekman Center, to grow a scholarship fund at the Radmoor Montessori, to step up playground equipment at St. Peter’s Lutheran Preschool, to boost after school programs at Dwight Rich Middle School and to fund a student activities account at Lakewood High School.
