Cooley Team Wins AAJ Regional Mock Trial Competition
The Cooley Law School mock trial team of Sabrina Bell, Jonathan Richey, Chad Young and Scott Goldman captured the Seattle Region Championship of the American Association of Justice Student Trial Advocacy Competition March 4, and will travel to New Orleans to compete in the National Finals from March 29-April 1.
The Cooley group beat teams from Barry University, Louisiana State University, the University of Montana, Brigham Young University, and Hamline University to capture the Seattle title. The Cooley team tried five cases in one weekend, winning every trial unanimously except for the championship round. Out of 15 votes, only one judge voted for another team.
Cooley Professor and team co-coach John Brennan was ecstatic. “I can't even begin to describe how proud I am of these students,” he said, “not only for their hard work, which included many weekends and evenings beyond formal practices, but also for their professionalism, their polish, and their good-sportsmanship.”
Brennan noted that the victory was a major group effort. "I want to thank everyone who lent their help along the way, students, alumni and friends who volunteered time to sit on our juries and who gave us such meaningful feedback."
Brennan and co-coach, Professor Tony Flores sent out special thanks to the Cooley community for their support and good wishes.
