June 10, 2014 - Recent Cooley graduate and U.S. Army veteran, Zaneta Adams, performed during the Veteran Talent Showcase at the Detroit Regional Chamber’s annual Mackinac Policy Conference in May. Prior to the showcase, Adams and several other veterans were honored during the conference by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder.

Adams served in the U.S. Army for eight years. She was injured in 2005 while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom when she fell 11 feet off a truck while doing a combat training maneuver just before deploying. After two back surgeries, she was told she would never walk again. It turns out that the doctors underestimated her' determination and tenacity, however. Adams fought long and hard through rehabilitation to get where she is today.

Adams has since used her talents as a singer and songwriter to raise awareness of the needs of our nation's returning service men and women. In 2010, she traveled throughout the county as a representative of the Wounded Warrior Project, singing the National Anthem. She has also opened live concerts, and recorded with Grammy Award winners Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Charlie Daniels and Gretchen Wilson.
