Sarah Miller Honored with Great Deeds Award
August 7, 2014 - Thomas M. Cooley Law School’s Center for Ethics, Service and Professionalism has presented the Student Great Deeds Award to Sarah Miller from Cooley’s Grand Rapids campus for her outstanding commitment to serving others.
The award, which is presented each term, recognizes a student who demonstrates great service, whether it be through long-term commitment or through a single act. Miller was recognized for her service commitment, leadership skills, stellar work ethic, and academic excellence - in law school and beyond.
“Miller represents that long-term commitment component,” said Karen Rowlader, assistant director at Cooley’s Center for Ethics, Service and Professionalism. “She has been a student at Cooley since May 2012, but she was pitching in with the Heart of West Michigan United Way’s Day of Caring years before that.”
Miller is a longtime volunteer with Kids Hope USA, a nonprofit organization that pairs church members with at-risk kids. Kids Hope mentors spend one hour per week reading, talking, playing and listening to children.
Miller is also involved with the Grand Rapids Bar Association and Grand Rapids Public Schools 3Rs Project, a First Amendment-based program aimed at introducing high school students to law as a career. She also volunteers at the Legal Assistance Center and finds time to teach the Constitution to public school students.
