Criminal Defense Trial College Comes to Cooley Law School in August
July 22, 2013 – The annual Criminal Defense Trial College will be held at Cooley Law School in Lansing Wednesday, August 21 through Monday, August 26. The residential college is open to all criminal defense lawyers from any state. Attorneys wishing to take part in the program can find registration information at www.cdamonline.org.
Top criminal defense lawyers from across Michigan provide the teaching support, while students learn by doing. The cost of the college includes the full program, breakfasts and lunches, and accommodations at the nearby Radisson Hotel in downtown Lansing, Michigan.
Cooley Law School Professor Marjorie Russell, who serves as Trial College facilitator noted, "This has been a year where issues of competent and properly funded criminal defense for the indigent have been center stage in Michigan. The Trial College stands as a critical part of the support lawyers need to improve their skills and provide the highest quality representation. It is a working lab where both new and even highly experienced lawyers cultivate, polish and renew their skills."
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Criminal Defense Trial College, which is co-sponsored by Cooley Law School and the Criminal Defense Lawyers of Michigan. A 10th year celebration dinner is planned for Friday evening at the Radisson. Tickets for the dinner may be purchased separately at www.cdamonline.org. The college is funded in part by MCOLES, the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards.
