U.S. Magistrate Judge Holds Motion Call at Cooley's Auburn Hills Campus
On October 18, 2011, U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven Whalen conducted his motion call at Cooley Law School's Auburn Hills campus. The program was sponsored by the Criminal Law Society.
The judge heard several motions, including an employment case brought by the Equal Employment Commission, which sought to amend its complaint, and a motion for attorney's fees in connection with a successful First Amendment challenge against the city of Dearborn. The latter case involved the city preventing the plaintiff from proselytizing at the city's annual Arab-American festival.
The program, which began a couple of years ago, is a continuing program whereby federal judges move their court to Cooley's Auburn Hills campus to hear motions. Previously, Judge Bernard Friedman, Judge Robert Cleland, Judge Victoria Roberts and Judge David Lawson conducted their motion call on the Auburn Hills campus.
