Pro Bono Pledge Taken at Cooley Law School
On Oct. 19, 2011, some 141 students, attorneys, and members of faculty took the Thomas M. Cooley Law School Voluntary Pro Bono Pledge; 122 were students, nine were members of faculty, five were staff attorneys, four were private attorneys from the community (three of which were Cooley alumni), and one was a non-attorney/law student - the daughter of the event's keynote speaker.
The ceremony started out with the singing of the National Anthem
by an Auburn Hills student, Danielle Ray. Joy Fossel, the 2011
State Bar of Michigan Cummiskey Award winner, gave an inspirational
speech, and Oakland County Circuit Judge Michael Warren administered
the pledge to all 141 attendees. He then signed each certificate
and shook hands with each student, attorney, and member of faculty.
The Cooley Voluntary Pro Bono Pledge requires students to participate
in one pro bono activity during the upcoming year and every year
thereafter for the rest of their legal careers.
