Cooley Law School’s 10th Annual 5k Race For Education Set For June 5

The Thomas M. Cooley Law School will hold its 10th annual Race for Education on Friday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m. in downtown Lansing. The 5K event has raised more than $70,000 for educational institutions since it began in 2000.

The Cooley 5K Race for Education is an extension of Cooley Law School’s mission of serving the community, explained race director Terry Carella, who also is Cooley’s director of communications. “The race is an opportunity for the community to gather in support of education, especially at a time when schools need every boost possible.”

Each 5K participant nominates an educational institution of his/her choice and Cooley selects the winning recipients through a drawing. One hundred percent of the proceeds are donated to schools; one winning school will receive 50 percent of the proceeds; one will receive 25 percent, two will receive 10 percent and one will receive 5 percent of the proceeds. In addition, one school will receive the $1,000 Cooley Award. Previous races have helped fund everything from new books to fieldtrips and playground equipment.

“Cooley’s race participants can feel good about knowing that they all have an equal opportunity to truly benefit the school or educational institution that is most near and dear to their hearts,” Carella said.

A half-mile Children’s Race Around the Capitol and a 100-yard Kids’ Dash will be held following the start of the 5K. There is also a celebration with live music, food, children’s activities and awards.

Registration is $20 until May 19; $25 until May 29; $30 from June 1-4 (walk-in registration at Cooley Law School, 300 S. Capitol Ave.); and $35 on the day of the race. For more information, including registration forms and sponsorship information visit cooley.edu/race or call (517) 371-5140, ext. 2916.
