Services to the General Public & Other Law School Students

Welcome

Welcome to the Thomas M. Cooley Law Libraries. The Brennan Law Library of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School is a Congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government Documents. Public access to the government documents is guaranteed by public law (Title 44 U.S.C.).

It is our pleasure to be able to assist you in your legal research needs. With libraries in multiple locations, we offer the General Public and students from other law schools access to a wealth of information in which to conduct research. A combined collection of over one-half a million volumes and many miles of shelving serve as an unbelievable treasure trove for the legal researcher.

Access

All visitors must register upon entering. Please contact the particular Library for specific access procedures, i.e. presenting ID, filing out a form, or checking with security. Contact the Libraries.

Assistance

Legal and ethical codes prohibit librarians from giving legal advice or opinion, or from interpreting sources of legal authority. Library staff may not perform legal research, offer legal advice, or choose legal forms for patrons. For these reasons Law Library staff must limit themselves to suggesting library materials that might be helpful to you, assisting you in locating these materials, and showing you how to find information in them.
