Before joining Cooley's faculty, Professor Scott was in general trial practice near Kalamazoo, Mich., specializing in family, criminal, property, and bankruptcy litigation. He was appointed to the Cooley faculty in 1978.
He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America; the Real Property, Local Government, Litigation and Legal Education sections of the American Bar Association; the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; the State Bar of Michigan; and the Cooley Legal Authors Society.
He administered Cooley's Trial Workshop program for 10 years and coaches Cooley's teams in the ABA, ATLA, and NACDL National Trial Competitions for law students. Professor Scott is the national co-chair (with Professor Gerald MacDonald) of the NACDL Criminal Trial Competition. They co-author the case-file problems used in that competition every year.
His book, Evidence Illustrated, was published in 2000. He teaches Evidence and Property.
