Professor Kavanagh practiced law in Chicago for several years before moving to Michigan. She was associated with two law firms in Chicago, representing businesses and individual clients in general civil practice. She concentrated her practice on business transactions and civil litigation.

Upon moving to Michigan, she joined the research staff of the Michigan Court of Appeals and served as a law clerk to a judge of that court. Before joining the faculty of Cooley, Professor Kavanagh established a solo practice in Lansing, Mich., concentrating in appellate advocacy.

Professor Kavanagh teaches Research & Writing and Property II. She also directs the Intro to Law Program.
