Professor Dunn joined the fulltime faculty at Cooley Law School in 2012, after having served as a Visiting Professor. He serves as the director of Cooley’s Access to Justice Clinic at the Grand Rapids campus. Students participate in the clinic to learn the practice of law through a court rule that allows students to practice under the supervision of an attorney. The students have their own clients and cases and they prepare lawsuits mainly relating to indigent family court matters that include court appearances, motions, evidentiary hearings and trials.
Prior to joining Cooley, Professor Dunn was a partner at Dunn Gibbons, PLC, in Grand Rapids, 2003-2011. He focused on state and federal criminal law, family law, child abuse, neglect and delinquency. He served as a adjunct professor at Cooley 2008-2011, teaching Moot Court, Criminal Practice, Drunk Driving Law and Practice, Child Abuse and Neglect, Children and the Law, and Pre-Trial Practice. He also helped implement the Grand Rapids Teen Court Program.
Previously, he was a Senior Partner with Dunn, Malson and Kozera, P.C., 2000-2003, a sole practitioner, Dunn Law Offices, P.C., 1990-2000, and an associate with Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt & Howlett, 1987-1990, all in West Michigan.
Professor Dunn co-hosts "The Lawyer’s Show," a weekly legal radio talk show syndicated in Western Michigan. He also contributes to the Gary Allen Show, Fox News, and the nationally syndicated Allen Hunt Show. Professor Dunn served as an elected member of the Caledonia Township (Michigan) Board of Trustees. He was also on the township’s Zoning Board of Appeals, serving as chairman for several years.
At Cooley, Professor Dunn continues to teach the classes he taught as an adjunct, including Moot Court, Family Law, and Child Abuse and Neglect.
