P. Cercone
Associate Dean of Faculty and Professor |
Professor Cercone started his 12 year litigation career in New York City at one of the country's largest law firms. While there, he worked on several high profile cases, including the Chrysler Antitrust case and the breakup of the Bell Telephone system.
He then moved back to his hometown of Buffalo, N.Y., where he and several colleagues opened up a local office for one of Pittsburgh's largest firms. During that time, Professor Cercone represented Waste Management, Browning Ferris Industries, Ryder, DuPont, Dow Chemical, Olin Corporation, Norfolk & Western Company, Bell Aerospace, Bristol Myers Squibb and Westinghouse in all facets of commercial, tax, toxic tort, asbestos and environmental litigation, including conducting numerous trials.
Professor Cercone arrived at Cooley in 1996 and was promoted to full professor in 2003. In June of 2003, President LeDuc appointed him Associate Dean of Faculty. Professor Cercone has won numerous teaching recognition awards, including the Beattie Award, and has published frequently over his career on topics such as common law nuisance, hazardous waste management, the Clean Water Act, and most recently, the work product doctrine.

I, Civil Procedure II, and Taxation and coaches the Environmental National
Moot Court team.
