March 22, 2012 - Over the course of the last two years there have been numerous changes to what Americans expect to receive when it comes to their health care. The Affordable Care Act passed in 2010, is called a "bridge" to 2014 when a new competitive insurance marketplace will be established. The new implementations have raised many questions. To answer some of these questions, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum and The Thomas M. Cooley Law School are co-sponsoring an ethics symposium on health care. The event will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. The event is free and open to the public.
When asked about his father's stance on health care Steve Ford, Chairman of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, said, "When it came to health care, my Dad's track record was conservative and compassionate. As President, he didn't hesitate to veto wasteful spending while proposing reforms geared toward slowing the growth of entitlements, consolidating government programs and ensuring adequate funding for vital research and safety net programs. I'm proud the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation and the Thomas M. Cooley Law School are carrying on the vital discussion about how our health system can become more efficient and effective for America."
The panel will include Mary Agnes Carey, Senior Correspondent for Kaiser Health News, as moderator; Ron Pollack, Founding Executive Director, Families USA; and, Robert E. Moffit, Ph.D., Senior Fellow at The Heritage Foundation.
