Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the Cooley Volunteer Corps (CVC)?

CVC is a program that matches organizations with law students who seek substantive volunteer experience.  It is designed to foster law student community service and to encourage future lawyers to incorporate public service work into their careers, thus providing the opportunity for students to enhance their resumes.

Who can participate in the CVC?

Any law student who has completed at least 9 credits and is in good academic standing with the desire to gain valuable volunteer experience can volunteer.

What are the requirements for participation in CVC?

To participate in CVC, students are required to sign a Student Agreement form stating that he/she:

  • will volunteer a minimum of 30 hours per term;
  • will meet with the CVC coordinator at least twice during the term; and
  • will submit an evaluation of his/her experience to the Career and Professional Development Office at the completion of a volunteer period.

I want to volunteer! Where do I begin?

Contact the Career and Professional Development Office, via e-mail at cpdoffice@cooley.edu, visit the Career and Professional Development Office, or attend one of the informational meetings conducted at the beginning of each term.  The CVC Advisors will give you a Volunteer Placement Query and will schedule your first appointment.
