June 17, 2008 Cooley Students Enjoy Foreign Study Program in Toronto
Twenty-four law students, including several Grand Rapids Campus Cooley students, participated in Cooley's study abroad program in Toronto this summer. Students live and study in Toronto for three or six weeks during May and June. The program is offered in cooperation with the University of St. Michael's College in the University of Toronto. Students may select up to eight international and comparative law courses taught by Canadian, British, and U.S. law professors, jurists, and barristers. This summer, students enrolled in such classes as Comparative Criminal Law, NAFTA Law, International Environmental Law, and International Law in a Post-9/11 World. Students are also able to attend many legal and cultural events including a lecture given by the prime minister candidate for the Liberal Party, a tour of the Superior Court (Ontario's main court of appeal), a tour of Ontario's Parliament and a chance to watch committee debates, a trip to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario where students can sit in on an administrative hearing, and an optional trip to Ottawa to see the parliament and Supreme Court, and hear lectures from politicians and lawyers. Students also have many opportunities for recreational activities such as attending a Blue Jays baseball game, a Shakespearean play at Stratford, or a Shaw play at Niagara-on-the-Lake.
