June 27, 2007 Disbarred Attorney Warns Students about AddictionsCooley students, staff, faculty, and members of the legal community sat enthralled as Michael Burke, a disbarred attorney from Howell, MI, spoke about about the addictions that ruined his career. Mr. Burke was a successful attorney in private practice before addictions to alcohol and later, gambling, changed his life irrevocably. His powerful presentation made a strong impact on the Cooley students, many of whom stayed for the question-and-answer session that followed Burke's presentation. Mr. Burke's presentation on the Grand Rapids Campus on June 27 was sponsored by Cooley's Center for Ethics, Service, and Professionalism as part of its "Integrity in Our Communities" lecture series. This lunchtime speaker series offers students, staff, and faculty an opportunity to hear from attorneys, judges, and dedicated professionals who share their experiences on the topics of ethics, service, or professionalism.
