Jon Muth, founder of the Kent County Legal Assistance Center (LAC) shared his initial vision and startup of the LAC, and he discussed representation for the underserved in a presentation to GR Cooley students on January 26, 2007.

On Friday, January 26, 2007, Jon Muth, former State Bar of Michigan President, General Counsel for Miller Johnson, and founder of the Kent County Legal Assistance Center, shared his philosophy on life and giving with students, faculty, and staff at the GR Law Center.

Sponsored by the Center for Ethics, Service, and Professionalism, Muth’s speech marked the first in Cooley Grand Rapids Campus’s "Integrity in Our Communities Speaker Series."

Muth was instrumental in bringing the Legal Assistance Center (LAC) to Grand Rapids to provide assistance with forms and procedures to pro se litigants. He challenged Cooley students to think beyond the law degree, the Bar Exam, and the first job—and to focus on their reputation and how they wish to practice law. "Economic success alone cannot stave off personal failure if commitments to ethics and professionalism are lacking," Muth concluded.
