Cooley's Grand Rapids Campus unveiled its first art acquisition at a reception hosted at the Cooley Law Center on October 25. The painting, entitled "The Approaching Storm," was created in 1917 by Mathias Alten, known as "the dean of Grand Rapids painters."

Speaking on behalf of the Cooley Art Committee, William Weiner, Associate Dean for Extended and Graduate Programs, discussed how the committee was able to acquire the painting at an online auction. Other speakers at the reception included Celeste Adams, Director of the Grand Rapids Art Museum; James Straub who discussed his research toward publishing a catalog of Alten's work; and Kim Smith, owner of Perceptions Gallery in Grand Rapids.

The painting will be on display on the Fifth Floor of the Cooley Law Center in Grand Rapids.
