September 26, 2006 Cooley Librarian Nominated for ATHENA Award
Aletha Honsowitz, Head of Public Services for Gooley's Grand Rapids Campus Library, was honored on Tuesday, September 26, at the ATHENA Award Ceremony luncheon at the Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. Aletha was one of eleven women nominated for the prestigious ATHENA award, which is given annually to a member of the business community for career accomplishments, community involvement, and helping women reach their full leadership potential. Aletha has chaired the United Way campaign at Cooley Law School since 1992. She spearheaded GR Campus participation in the United Way Day of Caring for the last three years. Additionally, she was a member of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers/Big Sisters and is active in the Cooley Alumni Association. In 2001, the Capitol Area United Way presented Aletha with the Marion Marshall Award, which is presented to a campaign volunteer who exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism. Aletha has also helped to mentor future women lawyers through her work at the Cooley library, helping them develop proficiency in the area of legal research. The ATHENA Award for 2006 was given to the Hon. Sara Smolenski, Chief Judge of the 63rd District Court and a graduate of Cooley Law School.
