Cooley Students Help Put Books on Shelves in New Library on Student Volunteer Day

Carrying on a long Cooley tradition, students from the GR Campus helped to put books on the shelves in the new library on the GR Campus during Student Volunteer Day (Thursday, February 5).  About 1,000 boxes of books were unpacked and shelved in two days, thanks to long hours of labor and the efforts of many.  Thirty years ago, Cooley students carried books from 507 S. Grand Avenue to the Masonic Temple Building in downtown Lansing to help set up the first law library.  Wednesday, February 6th was GR Law Librarians Help Day, with three librarians from a law firm (Varnum) shelving books in the new library, along with six staff from the Spectrum Health Center Libraries.  A big thank you goes to all the librarians and administrative staff at Cooley who helped out, and especially to our student volunteers.

Boxes of books that were stored on the 4th floor of the Cooley Center after they were unloaded into the new library addition.

Associate Dean for Library & Instructional Support Duane Strojny puts the first book on the shelf in GR (and yes we had to wear hard hats when working in certain areas of the building).

GR students that volunteered their time to assist with putting books on the shelves - during Student Volunteer Day. Thanks to the diligent effort by the students, we finished putting all the books on the shelves and are now just dealing with supplements. (Back row - Bruce Merchant, Dan Eley (his wife Mary also came and assisted), Jim Schenher, Kim Royster, Leanne Ford, Middle Row, Aletha Honsowitz, Joanna Smith, Amy Doyle & front is Tom Smith. All students worked shifts of 2 hrs - 7 hrs and worked very, very hard.
