Youth Financial Literacy and Financial Aid Forum - February 1, 2010
Gary C. PetersThe Youth Financial Literacy and Financial Aid forum was held at Cooley Auburn Hills on Monday, February 1, 2010, from 7-8:30 p.m. The forum featured Congressman Gary C. Peters with Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner.

Presentations on Financial Aid were by Julie Elwart, U.S. Department of Education and Roger Maki-Schram, Associate Director of Financial Aid, Oakland University. The presenter on Financial Literacy was Jeremy Cybulski, Youth and Community Development Coordinator, Co-Op Services Credit Union. Topics covered were FAFSA, scholarships, student loans, credit card education, budgeting, savings and investment basics.

Pictured L to R: Associate Dean John Nussbaumer; Professor Ashley Lowe; Michigan State Bar President, Ed Pappas; Honorable Fred MesterOn Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Cooley Auburn Hills Campus, Ed Pappas, the President of the State Bar of Michigan spoke as part of the Cooley Integrity in the Community Lecture Series. Mr. Pappas gave his "Top Ten Tips; How to Succeed in Law without Compromising Your Principles." These are in the inverse order of importance; 1) Don’t take yourself too seriously, maintain your sense of humor; 2) Prepare, prepare, prepare; 3) Don’t ignore the things you value the most, family, friends, your health; 4) Listen more than you talk; 5) Admit mistakes and take immediate action to correct or minimize the mistake; 6) Continue to educate yourself both formally and informally; 7) Don’t be afraid of failure, learn from your failures, 8) Participate and get involved in the Bar, community, pro-bono service; 9) Be professional, ethical and civil to everyone; and most importantly 10) Build relationships, personal contacts.

Michigan Tax Section, Oakland University and the Cooley Graduate Tax Program presented a "Tax Fraud Panel"Tax Fraud Panel - June 4, 2009
A cooperative effort by the Michigan Tax Section, Oakland University and the Cooley Graduate Tax Program presented a "Tax Fraud Panel" on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the Cooley Auburn Hills Campus in AH L48. The panel participants were tax attorneys, CPAs and students; Maurice Eadie, Sandra Carter, Richard Zuckerman and Alan Gershel. The presentation counted as credit for the accounting and legal profession through the Oakland University Center for Executive and Continuing Education. Among many observations were, "You can’t send a corporation to jail," and "It’s very hard to educate a client when to stop talking."

Patent Panel - May 19, 2009
The Student Intellectual Property Law Association and the Federalist Society Patent Panel of ExpertsThe Student Intellectual Property Law Association and the Federalist Society presented a Patent Panel on Friday, May 19, 2009 at 5 p.m. on the Auburn Hills Campus.  The topic which combined property, Constitutional and intellectual property law was "Are Patents Constitutional Private Property Rights Secured Under the Taking Clause?"  As Professor Mossoff said about 1,400 patent cases, "I have read them all.  I am a patent geek." Students learned from his and the other panel members' expertise.

Honors Convocation - April 3, 2009

Daniel Reaume, Alumni Distinguished Student Award winner Over one hundred students, faculty and staff attended the first Thomas M. Cooley, Auburn Hills Campus Honors Convocation on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 5:05 p.m. in AH 145.

Many awards and recoginitions were given to students for their Sarah Ann Ramsey, Alumni Memorial Scholarship winneraccomplishments including awards to the Alumni Distinguished Student Award winner Daniel Reaume and the Alumni Memorial Scholarship winner Sarah Ann Ramsey.

“Congratulations” was heard all around.
