Scheduling Options at Cooley Law SchoolChoose from four scheduling options for the most flexibility in law school planning:
The Standard Schedule (a manageable schedule for both working and nonworking students) Students selecting this option attend law school part-time for three years (36 months). There are four courses (12 credits) each term for the first year. During the second and third years, students take nine credits each term. The third year will allow for elective concentrations. This schedule is Cooley's trademark program, designed by the law school's faculty and administration to offer a manageable schedule for both working and nonworking students. The Extended Schedule (work while you attend law school)This schedule is designed primarily for students who must work while attending law school. Students who select this option attend law school part-time for four years (48 months). There are three courses (9 credits) each term for the first and second years, with students attending class three days per week. During the third and fourth years, students take six credits each term. The Weekend Schedule (mornings and afternoons on Saturday and Sunday)Students may complete their entire legal education through weekend classes. With 3-hour classes scheduled mornings and afternoons on Saturdays and Sundays, students may choose to follow either the Standard or the Extended schedules. Weekend classes enter in September in Lansing, January in Grand Rapids, and May in Auburn Hills. The Term-off Schedule (traditional - summers off)This schedule is modeled after a traditional law school program, which allows students summers off for legal internships. However, Cooley's program offers entrance in January and May as well as the traditional September start date. Those starting in September will have summers off, while students beginning in January and May are off fall and winter respectively. Students selecting this option attend law school full-time for almost three years (32 months), attending classes two terms per year and receiving one term off per year. There are five courses (15 credits) each term. This schedule allows for elective concentrations. The Accelerated Schedule (Get your law degree in just 2 years)This schedule is an intensive, full-time program recommended only for those students who are advised or feel confident they can manage five classes (15 credits) per term. Students selecting this option attend classes five days per week for two years (24 months). There are no terms off, although, as with all programs at Thomas M. Cooley, there are term breaks. Students are strongly encouraged to discuss this option with an academic advisor at Cooley. An admissions representative will also be able to offer an opinion on this program after reviewing your admissions credentials. This schedule allows for elective concentrations.
